In Madeira Island there are 2 species of Mimosa growing spontaneously, Acacia farnesiana and Acacia mearnsii. The first one occurs at the west of Funchal, at the sea level and has flowers all year. The other one occurs in eastern Madeira, in south and east of high peaks, between 500 and 900 meters of altitude and blooms only from April to October. There are other species of Acacia that are planted in gardens in small number for ornament as Acacia dealbata, Acacia longifolia, Acacia melanoxylon, Acacia retinodes, Acacia sophorae and Acacia verticillata. Though Acacia dealbata is possibly locally naturalized in south-eastern Madeira from 300 to 1100 meters of altitude and it flowers between January and March.

If you need to see a doctor during your accommodation in Madeira Island, the receptionist or the person responsible for your accommodation are able to put you in touch with an English speaking All doctors on Madeira are private and therefor if you attend a surgery or call them out they will charge a consultation fee. Be sure to keep all receipts and refer to your individual insurance policy to claim your expenses.

In Madeira Archipelago chemists are called "Farmácias" and can be recognised by a green and illuminated cross in the top, outside the building. Chemists are open in the same hours that other shops are open, although there is always a duty chemist available. To know which is the duty chemist available on the day you need please ask the reception of the hotel or ask the person responsible for your accommodation or even find it out on a local newspaper. |
