The Island Canary Serinus canaria is a song bird endemic to the Fortunate Islands, commonly known as Macaronesian Islands - Madeira, Azores and Canary archipelagos. With yellow underparts and brownish upperparts this bird is commonly seen from sea level up to 1500 meters of altitude. Females and juveniles are not so bright yellow as males though all of them are very good singers.

Next Sunday, the 27th of September 2009, the world is celebrating the Tourism day. Madeira is joining these celebrations by offering the following program:

The British low cost airline, Jet2.com is starting to link Manchester to Madeira from May 2010 on. It will fly once a week, on Mondays, departing early in the morning from Manchester and returning from Madeira at noon.
