The Photograph Museum - Vicentes carries out on the 20th of May two film projection sessions in the old photographic studio of Vicente Gomes da Silva, currently the Vicentes Museum.

The initiative, carried out as part of the MEDIAT II - Digital Atlantic Memory - Photography, integrated in INTERREG III B programme, will celebrate the “Museum Night” where the theme will be “A Trip to Madeira.”

With this in mind, the films which will be shown are documentaries about Madeira archipelago which are part of the museum’s collection. Sessions will take place at 6 pm and at 9 pm where the entrance will be free and will include a guided tour in the museum.

Also during May, the museum will provide a room for the public to look for images from its various collections that are part of the museum’s photographic archive.

A new project for Madeira tourism promotion named Quintas da Madeira was public presented last week. Quintas da Madeira is a joint project of 16 lodging units that under the “umbrella brand” of Quintas da Madeira will promote, together with the Madeira Promotion Bureau, the old typical manor houses surrounded by gardens or agriculture terrains.

The aim is to recover the lodging facilities, the tradition and old Madeira characteristics that were part of the Island’s tourist offer 2 centuries ago.

The 16 Quintas that belong to this project, in alphabetical order, are:

• Quinta Bela de São Tiago, Funchal
• Quinta Casa Velha do Palheiro, Funchal
• Quinta da Bela Vista, Funchal
• Quinta da Casa Branca, Funchal
• Quinta da Rochinha, Ponta do Sol
• Quinta das Vistas, Funchal
• Quinta do Estreito, Câmara de Lobos
• Quinta do Furão, Santana
• Quinta do Monte, Funchal
• Quinta Jardim da Serra, Câmara de Lobos
• Quinta Jardins do Lago, Funchal
• Quinta Mirabela, Funchal
• Quinta Perestrello, Funchal
• Quinta Serra Golf, Santo da Serra
• Quinta Splendida, Caniço
• Quintinha São João, Funchal

These are all 4 or 5 star lodging units that have rebuilt old traditional houses and transformed it into elegant hotels where one can relax and feel inside the historic and culture heritage of Madeira.

Madeira has achieved an excellent 11th place in the Top 20 world islands chosen by the readers of the famous travel magazine, Condé Nest Traveller.
On these 2006 Awards, Madeira, between the European islands is ranked third, after Sicily (3rd place on the top 20) and Greek islands (8th place). Madeira was better ranked than islands like Hawaii, Majorca, Cyprus, Canaries, Sardinia and Corsica.

The Choupana Hills Resort & Spa came in 9th and was the only Portuguese spa on the winners list. Prizes were awarded based on the magazine's readers survey results, showing the most voted places all over the world considering hotels and other services.

Madeira Airports have a new image and a new brand. The main reason of this change was to get closer to customers who use Madeira airports.

Though the new image safeguards the previous denomination "ANAM - Airports and Air travel (Navigation) of Madeira, SA", from now on a simplified and auto-clarifying brand will be used: “Madeira Airports".

According to the company, this new image transforms a style focused on aviation on a symbol that not only shows the dynamic airport activity but also represents the Madeira Autonomous Region spirit and offer, reflecting a competitive and modern company.

As of June, the Venezuela airline Santa Bárbara Airlines will offer weekly flights to Funchal in a Boeing 767 carrying 260 passengers.
These flights will mainly serve the large Madeira community living in Venezuela.
