Due to the last week's stormy weather, with strong winds and heavy rain there has been some landslides and rockfalls and so Madeira government had to close some of Madeira roads and levadas for security reasons.
These are some of the recommended paths/levadas (PR) that are closed until further notice:
- PR18 - Levada do Rei (Quebradas – Ribeiro Bonito), in Santana
- PR9 - Levada do Caldeirão Verde (Queimadas - Caldeirão Verde), in Santana
- PR12 - Caminho Real da Encumeada (Boca da Corrida – Encumeada), between Câmara de Lobos and Ribeira Brava
- PR17 - Caminho do Pináculo e Folhadal (Lombo do Mouro – Caramujo – Folhadal -Encumeada)
The regional road ER 103 between Sitio do Cabouco and Sitio da Fajã do Cedro Gordo, in São Roque do Faial, Santana will be closed until the 12th of January 2010.
The footpath that links Levada da Calheta with Ponta do Pargo, between the Water Treatment Station of Estreito da Calheta and the industrial estate in Atalhinho will be closed for maintenance until 15th March 2010.
Be careful not to risk in levada walks or trekking, if there is a landfall do not continue over it, it is always safer to come back.
